"I don't think that is what Formula 1 needs," says four-time world champion of pre-race Lego parade at Silverstone.

Following the success of the 'Lego race' ahead of last year's Miami Grand Prix, F1 bosses - no doubt with the aid of a healthy wad of sponsor cash - have arranged another outing ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix.

Last year each team's drivers shared a car, but this weekend all 22 drivers will have a car of their own.

Speaking on Thursday, the drivers appeared to have mixed opinions.

"I'm indifferent," said Lance Stroll, possibly fearing that his Lego car will out-perform his actual race car. "I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I'm not going to wake up super early in the morning excited about it. It's just another one of those drivers' parades."

"I'm pretty excited for it, actually!" enthused Lando Norris.

"I think if they had another 600 horsepower, then it would be interesting," said Stroll. "Then we'd be more excited."

"If it's like Miami, I think whoever can make it back to the start line will be a winner already," said Norris. "I think it's a cool thing to do. It's different. It's nice to, obviously when you're all together and you can have a little chitchat and see the fans when you're on the truck. But I think it's nice to do something different every now and then. So as long as it's safe and we all behave, which we shall, then it will be a jolly good ride."

"Last year was so fun," added Gabriel Borotleto. "Honestly, I think it's a nice thing to have. We do the truck drivers' parade most of the races and have it once like this, I think it's quite a nice thing. Last year, I think everyone had fun and I don't see why this year we cannot have fun as well. It's good."

"I'm actually really excited because I missed it in Miami last year and it looked so fun," said Valtteri Bottas. "I think the key will be, because everyone is capped to 25 kilometres per hour, saving distance is probably the key. I'm excited. So saving distance is my strategy, and using tow."

"I don't think it's going to be about winning," said Arvid Lindblad. "It's just about having some fun and maximum damage."

"It's the most dangerous part of the weekend," said Lewis Hamilton. "I let Charles drive last time and it was just hilarious watching everyone crashing into each other. So yeah, I don't know whether or not I'll be in the car this year."

Asked why he felt like that, the seven-time world champion replied: "There is not really much to say on that. That's something I need to take offline."

However, Ferrari has since confirmed that Hamilton will take part.

As for Verstappen, who will no doubt also have his arm twisted...

"I prefer to play with Lego at home, you know, with the kids," said the Dutchman. "Not on a go-kart here, to be honest.

"I prefer to stand on a truck, just with everyone together," he added. "I think that's more fun and I think it also looks more professional. At the end of the day we are Formula 1 drivers, I think we should not look like kids and clowns trying to ram into each other. I don't think that is what Formula 1 needs, but it is what it is.

"I'll just do my lap and wave at the fans because they deserve that, to see us. But, of course, from my side I would have loved to see it a little bit different."
